Special police detachments fully blocked the Chu Valley in Zhambyl oblast, Channel Seven reports. 150 thousand hectares of wild cannabis are under close watch of law-enforcing authorities: aviation is patrolling the territory, mobile groups and blockhouses have been deployed on the ground. Citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are busy with seasonal “harvesting”. They come here for a week, collect marijuana at nights and sleep in caves during daytime. The pickers collect several bags of drugs, hide them and go back home. Transportation and sales of cannabis are made by other members of the criminal chain. Policemen note that the objective of current operation called Kendir-2011 is rooting out of drug-trafficking at its initial stage. In just one month military forces destroyed over 4 tons of drugs and registered around 300 crimes. The ceased marijuana was destined for sale in Kazakhstan, Russia and Europe.
