Kazakhstan customs personnel will not be reduced because of the Customs Union (CU), Tengrinews.kz reports citing deputy chairman of Customs Control Commission of Kazakhstan Ministry of Finance Igor Ten. “Not a single person will be fired. We are reducing the number of customs points at the Northern border. The number of employees will be reduced there, but it will be increased at the Southern borders,” Ten said noting that reduction of the number customs points will not happen in one day. First, material and technical assets have to be transferred to the border guards. The deputy chairman also said that the measures are currently being taken to transfer customs employees to Southern borders, where residential buildings are being built for them. The Commission has promised to help employ the ones who would not be able or would not want to move for any reasons. Customs control will be officially transferred from internal to external borders of the Customs Union on July 1, 2011. 39 customs points will be transferred to the border guards. By Maksim Popov
