Astana and Moscow pointed out benefits of the Customs Union for common people, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the Kremlin Press Service. March 17, President Nurusltan Nazarbayev and Russian President Medvedev met at Gorki-9, President Medvedev’s residence. “The past year has been significant: we have launched the Customs Union. It’s the best integration entity ever founded since the collapse the USSR. … We hear lots of speculations in the media… In fact, it is a link being formed between the EU and China, between Europe and Asia”, the Kremlin’s Press Service quoted President Nazarbayev as saying. Nursultan Nazarbayev cited some indicators: for the first year of the Customs Union Kazakhstan’s imports from Russia grew by 30% making up 11.8 billion roubles, Kazakhstan’s exports to Russia grew by 30 % to reach 5 billion roubles. “It’s an obvious benefit… From July 1 we are removing the customs barriers between Russia and Kazakhstan: it’s a total of 7.5 thousand km”, Nursultan Nazarbayev said.
