Tengrinews.kz - During a session of the Jogorku Kenesh (Supreme Council), Deputy Dastan Bekeshev proposed the legalization of soft drugs in Kyrgyzstan, according to 24.kg.

According to Bekeshev, the approach to mild drugs should be reconsidered, as people are inherently weak and will continue to consume alcohol and drugs.

"But we need to distinguish between lesser and greater evils. For example, synthetic drugs are a greater evil. Maybe we should allow adults to use soft drugs?" the deputy stated.

He explained that due to the destruction of natural drugs like cannabis by law enforcement, their prices have risen, leading young people to turn to cheaper synthetic drugs.

This is not the first time Bekeshev has raised this issue. In 2019, he proposed establishing a free zone at the former Manas air base where the sale and consumption of soft drugs could be legalized.

A similar proposal was made by Tolkunbek Abdygulov, while serving as the head of the National Bank, stating that legalizing marijuana could help develop tourism.

Bekeshev's proposal sparked discussion among his colleagues but remains at the initiative stage for now.

Previously, Kyrgyzstan approved a list of prohibited "magic services" that cannot be advertised within the country including fortune-telling and shamanism.
