Camillo goes back to basics for Cerruti fashion debut

New Cerruti designer Aldo Maria Camillo presented a classic collection at the Paris menswear shows with a firm emphasis on the trinity of "fabrics, colours and silhouette", as the brand seeks to reclaim its European market position, AFP reports. The Italian designer told AFP he spent two months combing through the archives in preparation for his Cerruti debut, finding particular inspiration in the 1970s for its relaxed tailoring style. Remaining true to what the celebrated Italian house called its "original mix of formality and sportswear", pieces such as tailored jackets, hooded coats, duffel coats and the peacoat were "elongated to draw a tall slender line" in camel, midnight blue, burgundy, slate green and charcoal. Underneath, it was all about softness with high-collared shirts and cashmere polo necks. Meanwhile, following Cerruti's recent takeover by Hong Kong group Fung Brands, group chief executive Jean-Marc Loubier said he hoped Cerruti could re-establish its position in the European market. Fung Brands last year also bought 80 percent of French fashion house Sonia Rykiel. The brand now had 120 shops in China including Hong Kong, and also in Taiwan, Loubier told AFP. Around 80 autumn-winter 2013/14 menswear collections are being presented in Paris over five days, winding up on Sunday.
