A bike ride will take place in support of Almaty’s bid to host Winter Olympics in 2022, Tengrinews reports citing the press office of the Almaty Akimat (Municipal authorities).
The bike ride will take place on June 21. It will start at 8:00 a.m. near Sunkar ski jumping center. Olympic champion Alexander Vinokurov, a road bicycle racer of Pro Team Astana Fabio Aur and Kazakhstani paralympians will take part in the bike ride to support Almaty. The cyclists will ride through Al Farabi street to Rozybakiev street and turn to Abai avenue. The finish line will be awaiting the participants near the Central Stadium.
The organizers of the event urge everyone who supports Almaty's bid to host the Winter Olympics to take part in the event. The winners will be awarded prizes from Akim of Almaty Akhmetzhan Yessimov. The bike ride will be followed by a concert of Kazakhstani artists.
Almaty now has more chances to host the Olympics as a number of cities withdrew from the list of candidates due to high costs of the event. In addition, with the situation in Ukraine, it is yet unclear if the country will put a new bid on Lviv.
The final choice of the Winter Olympics 2022 location will be announced on July 31, 2015.
