The first Open Hair Styling, Makeup, Nail and Body Art Championship organized by the Beauty Industry Association of Kazakhstan has been held in Almaty on September 17-18, Tengrinews reports.
Around 100 professional hair dressers, makeup and nail artists came from all over the country to take part in the competition. Students of the Almaty-based Services and Technology College and people with special needs took part in the contest alongside the professionals.
Experts from Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan evaluated the works of the participants in 13 different categories - from hairdressing to nail design.
Besides, this was also the first time the participants showcased their skills in hair tattoo. They had only one hour to do a haircut with Kazakh national ornaments.
According to the championship's organizers, this task required not only being meticulous to every detail, but also being very careful as the participants were working with sharp razors.
According to one of the participants Yerlan Ainabekov, hair tattoo is becoming more and more popular among Kazakhstanis: "It has long been popular in the United States and Europe. It is very dangerous, because we are using razors. Therefore, a hairdresser should work very carefully and should have a hefty experience with it."
People come with various ideas, some want images of their loved ones to be shaved on their heads or logos of famous brands, he added.
Another participant Anna Butuzova had to work very hard, because there were a lot of things she wanted to do, but the space was very limited. "Each ornament in the form of Batyr is unique. I was so fascinated with the process that I simply did not have enough space and hair to do what I wanted," she said.
Nail artists and body painters were working on steam punk and circus looks for four hours.
According to President of Kazakhstan's Beauty Industry Association Makhmudzhan Tursun, who was in Top 10 of the European Hairdressing Championship 2013, competition of such a level was held in Kazakhstan for the first time. "Similar championship are held in other countries as well - Russia, Ukraine, France, Italy. But no such competitions have been held in Kazakhstan since independence," he said adding that the event was timed to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate that was celebrated throughout the country.
