This city was selected for the event for a reason, as Rennes is connected with Almaty by the twin-city relations agreement. The document was signed on April 14, 1991. An exhibition of arts and crafts timed to Almaty Culture Days opened in Shambres Liberte complex. Famous artists and craftsmen took part in the exhibition. Many of them are winners of Kazakhstan Sheber contest and holders of the AWARD of SEAL of EXCELLENCE OF UNESKO for Handicraft Products. Besides, Almaty Culture Days include another event: a photo exhibition presented by Almaty History Museum. Interactive master-classes and a fair were organized as well. Students of major French universities with Kazakhstan residents among them showed special interest to the event. The visitors took part in master-classes of such traditional Kazakh crafts like felting, needlecraft, ceramics making on the throwing-wheel, terme-alasha weaving, woodcarving and jewellery making. Almaty Culture Days in Rennes finished with a gala-concert of Kazakhstan honored artist Aigul Kossanova, soloists of Abai State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet Alfiya Karimova and Medet Chotabayev, Arnau band and folklore-ethnographic bank Sazgen Sazy.
