Tengrinews.kz – At the first meeting of the Artificial Intelligence Development Council, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that national interests must guide the country’s digital strategy, stressing that AI is not just a technological tool, but a matter of sovereignty and the future of generations to come.

"It’s not just about artificial intelligence. It’s about our sovereignty and the future of our generations. The government will carefully consider all the proposals voiced today. In conclusion, I would like to note that artificial intelligence is the main driving force of the digital economy. Therefore, I suggest dedicating the next meeting of the council to this topic," Tokayev stated.

Earlier, Tokayev highlighted the necessity of creating a specialized research university for AI in Kazakhstan.

The President also addressed the risks of AI integration into the education system, urging the government to take comprehensive measures to ensure academic integrity.

"Students may lose critical thinking skills," Tokayev warned.

New Ministry in Kazakhstan

On September 8, Tokayev announced the acceleration of the Digital Code and proposed the creation of a dedicated Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development. On September 18, he signed a decree transforming the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry into the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.

Additionally, part of the ministry's functions related to innovation policy will be transferred to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

On September 29, former Minister of Digitalization, Zhaslan Madiyev, was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.
