Astana citizen and inventor Valeriy Kulichenko has suggested to put up an artificial sun above Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan,Express-K writes. The newspaper writes that if the project is implemented the sun may become one of the symbols of the coming EXPO-2017 that will be dedicated to development of alternative energy sources. According to the inventor, his idea does not have anything in common with so-called sun simulators or quasi-stars working on thermonuclear power. “It’s enough just to create a stable radius of radiance. And there is no need to go into ultraviolet and infrared ranges,” Kulichenko said. “Technically it is quite possible: Nikola Tesla has solved it long time ago by inventing a plasma lamp. But his lamp has an orb and is filled with gas. We don’t need all that.” “The thing is that making a full sphere shining above the ground is possible, but is quite pricey. It is much simpler to set up a ball-like segment that will cover a certain territory with the dome. It will look like a sunrise from the ground,” the inventor said. Visitors and residents of Astana would be able to see the Kazakhstan Sunrise show every night during the year. According to the speaker, Astana will not spend any of its own energy if wind and solar generators are used. Safety remains the main issue. “We will have to deal with electricity, and uninsulated one. But this issue will be solved,” the inventor said. Earlier фт architect from Astana Yevgeniy Nevelichkov suggested to erect a transparent dome over Astana’s left bank area. According to him, the construction of this dome will fully solve the problem of cold and attract millions of tourists to Astana.
