The ceremony of opening of the Center of Collective Use, the first innovative scientific molecular-genetic laboratory in Kazakhstan and Central Asia, was held in Asfendiyarov National Medical University, Tengrinews.kz reports. The center includes 4 divisions: research of genetic material expression, screening and population genetics, cell biology and safe and effective therapy. The center will perform joint researches with scientific-research institutes and research centers of Kazakhstan and Central Asia attract researches and scientific groups. “This laboratory is the first one in Kazakhstan in terms of medicine. It will help all medical institutions of Almaty perform medical-genetic researches,” principal of the university, M.D. Aikan Akanov said. The researches will be held in advanced research facilities specially equipped for experiments with the last generation equipment. According to the principal, the equipment was procured from different countries, including the U.S. and Great Britain. Specially trained Kazakhstan experts will work with the laboratory equipment. “Two molecular-genetic laboratories were established under the state program Salamatty Kazakhstan. The first is here in Kazakh National Medical University in Almaty and the second is located in Karaganda State Medical University. Kazakhstan Healthcare Ministry has spent over 600 million tenge ($4 million) to open these laboratories. This money was used to procure the equipment,” head of Department of Medical Education and Science of Kazakhstan Healthcare Ministry Aigerim Ospanova said.
