Tengrinews.kz – OpenAI has introduced a new generation of artificial intelligence powering its popular ChatGPT chatbot, marking what experts describe as a significant leap toward advanced AI systems.

The presentation of the GPT-5 model was published on the company’s official website on August 7. According to OpenAI, GPT-5 is the most intelligent and fastest model it has released to date, with major improvements in programming, text generation, and handling complex tasks.

NBC News reports that the launch has drawn strong interest from the tech community, with GPT-5 seen as an important step in the race to create superintelligent systems — a field attracting massive investment from major IT corporations such as Microsoft, Meta, Google, and Amazon. Industry forecasts suggest that spending on AI could eventually reach trillions of dollars.

While the core improvements focus on refining existing ChatGPT capabilities, OpenAI acknowledges that GPT-5 still faces "significant limitations in areas such as long-term memory, autonomy, and adaptation to diverse tasks".

The new model is available for free to all users, but paid subscribers will enjoy higher usage limits and access to GPT-5 Pro.

Speaking at a pre-launch briefing, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the upgrade was so substantial that returning to the previous GPT-4 model, released in 2023, now feels "quite disheartening".
