Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) should take into account cultural diversity and serve the interests of society as a whole, rather than just privileged groups.
AI should reflect diverse identities
Speaking at the Digital Bridge 2025 International Forum in Astana, Tokayev highlighted the transformative power of AI. He noted that AI has become a driving force for global civilization and is forcing humanity to rethink the essence of human existence.
"This is a fundamental challenge for all of us. Therefore, we must nurture a new generation of engineers and specialists, including humanists, capable of understanding the significance and development of this technology," Tokayev stated.
He added that in order for AI to reflect the identity, traditions, legal norms, and moral values of different societies, philosophers, sociologists, and lawyers must also be involved in its development.
Addressing inequality and manipulation
Tokayev stressed the need to take effective measures to ensure that AI technologies do not exacerbate social inequality or become tools for manipulating citizens’ behavior and choices.
"We must not allow algorithms to impose universal values and ways of thinking, catering to certain privileged groups and undermining the cultural diversity of the world. Justice means that technologies serve everyone, not just the elite," he emphasized.
Earlier, Tokayev announced the opening of the International Artificial Intelligence Center, Alem.ai, which aims to contribute to the global development of AI while ensuring it serves the public good.
