Kazakhstan’s doctors tap into stem cells technology to treat burns

The Kazakhstan’s Center for Emergency Medicine in partnership with the National Center for Biotechnology has launched a project to use cultivated skin cells to cure burns, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports. Researchers at the Kazakhstan’s Center for Emergency Medicine told that they would be working to produce the base (bottom layer) for cells, cultivate skin of stem cells and “live skin equivalent”. Introduction of lab-grown skin is expected to bring burn therapy to a new level. Up to now, four patients have had a total of 5 surgeries to transplant artificial skin. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that the Research Medical Center under the Kazakh Healthcare Ministry and Stemedica of USA had agreed on conducting research to apply stem cells for therapeutic purposes. The sides plan to carry out international clinical trials with patients from a number of countries involved.
