"Smart" bus stops developed by Kazakhstanis have caught the attention of businessmen from the Silicon Valley, Tengrinews correspondent reports citing the author of the project Alim Khamitov.

Development of the project has been going on for a year. During this time, according to Khamitov, the team won two contests – got a grant and a trip to San Francisco.

American mentors in the Silicon Valley have become interested in the project and provided a series of consultations to the Kazakh innovators. Khamitov said that the communication was ongoing.

In addition, the developers are in contact with the Almaty municipal authorities.

Khamitov explained that his bus stops were "smart" because of the original software in their terminals. It can monitor public transport routes, movement of buses, trolleybuses and trams.

Later the developers are planning to extend the functionality of the terminal by adding a sightseeing guide, weather information and alarm button for emergency calls.

Two "smart" bus stops have already been installed in Kazakhstan's Pavlodar city. They are equipped with displays tells the passengers when the next bus comes, weather, time, etc. The system is using GPRS to track the buses.

By the end of the year Pavlodar authorities are planning to equip six more bus stops with similar displays.
