Completion of Baiterek launch facility at Baikonur cosmodrome has been postponed to 2017, National Space Agency deputy chairman Meirbek Moldabekov is quoted as saying by Liter newspaper. Delays in the tests of Angara carrier-rocket are behind the new postponement in construction of Baiterek launch pad that is meant to launch this new booster, Moldabekov said. Besides, a number of errors in the initial design of Baiterek facility were revealed. Location of the launch pad’s construction site had to be changed over these errors. Kazakhstan’s space programs are being developed in spite of the Baiterek delays, Moldabekov said. In recent years Baikonur cosmodrome has become a major international spaceport hosting satellite projects of US, EU, Russian and international space organizations. Proton-M carrier rocket for American ViaSat-1 satellite was delivered to Baikonur on April 6. The satellite is scheduled to be launched in late July this year.
