Timur Kulibayev is convinced that science in Kazakhstan is in demand. The chairman of the board of Samruk Kazyna National Wealth Fund (NWF) declared that after the meeting on innovation in the group of the Fund’s companies on November 1, Tengrinews.kz reports.

“Today the president of the Academy of Science said that those in science should be prepared to receive significant financial allocations for research and utilize them appropriately. This is a tremendous task,” the chairman of the NWF board said.

Kulibayev stressed that a new stage at which the science would be even in greater demand, was coming. The science however should incorporate contemporary tendencies and meet the needs of work management. “I believe that we are at the very start, but we hope and are convinced that we can engage into a fruitful dialogue with our science,” the head of NWF assured.

Timur Kulibayev outlined the key goal for the country: to transfer from dependence on raw materials to processing. “That is when we produce what we extract at more complex levels. Today we export crude oil and natural gas, whereas we must sell petrochemical products, produce plastic and other products in demand on the international market. The same refers to metals. We export iron but rather we should sell iron products, automobile body sheets,” Kulibayev exemplified.

With regard to cooperation with higher education institutions in Kazakhstan, it is planned at the initial stage to start a partnership with Kazakh-British Technical University, which is part of KazMunaiGaz (oil company) group. “We train specialists there for the oil and gas industry. Naturally, we will work with all institutes. All who are able to cooperate and train highly qualified staff are welcome to work with us,” Kulibayev commented on the Fund’s plans to cooperate with national universities.
