According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the batch of flowers turned out to be infected with western flower thrips, one of the dangerous pests of cultivated plants, as well as a vector of viral diseases of plants.
"During quarantine phytosanitary control and supervision at Astana International Airport, inspectors from the State Agro-Industrial Complex Inspection Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture identified a shipment from Turkey infected with the quarantine pest, western flower thrips. 15,000 flowers were seized and, following a court decision, were destroyed by burning," the ministry said.
