Head Imam (worship leader of a mosque and the Muslim community) of Zhambyl oblast Daniyar kazhy Dzhumabayev replied to accusations of some of the media and Internet web-sites that reproach religious authorities for inertness in countering terrorism, the website of Almaty Central Mosque writes. He said that religious authorities were not supposed to discover and neutralize criminals, as this was “military forces/ business.” “That's why talking about 'inertness' and 'helplessness' of mosques' employees or religious leaders is not very correct,” Dzumabayev stated. He said that everything possible was being done in Zhambyl oblast to let people access true information about Islam. There were 25 mosques in the city that held daily lectures on religious topics. The mosques also offered special courses for men and women and everyone were allowed to get enrolled. “We are also performing very active work on improving qualification of acting imams in cooperation with highly-qualified teachers who have studied in prestigious Islamic universities abroad. We regularly take part in TV programs and publish articles in local newspapers,” the website writes. Besides, head Imam expressed condolences to families of the victims of Taraz attack and called Taraz residents to stay calm.
