Nursultan Nazarbayev had a meeting with Alexander Vinokourov this Tuesday, January 27. The meeting’s agenda included discussion of the goals of the cycling team for this season and popularisation of cycling in Kazakhstan.
The President stressed that all the necessary conditions for development and promotion of cycling had been created in Kazakhstan.
"The national cycle track Sary-Arka in Astana is regarded as one of the best cycle tracks in terms of its capacity. And there is a successful professional cycling team," the President of Kazakhstan said.
In addition, Nazarbayev stressed the importance of popularising cycling among young people in Kazakhstan.
Vinokourov updated the President about the achievements of the Astana Pro team and said that international interest to Tour of Almaty race was growing. He also told Nazarbayev that in addition to the Tour of Almaty held under the auspices of the International Cycling Union, Kazakhstan's cycling federation was thanking about starting Tour of Astana and making an "at least three day race".
“This year is the tenth season for our cycling team. We are doing our best to win in all the competitions that we take part in. We have a good image in Europe after winning all the important races," the general manager of the cycling team said.
During the meeting, Vinokourov also presented the Kazakh President with a yellow jersey of Astana Pro Team, winner of last year's Tour de France.
