President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov will render an official visit to Kazakhstan, Tengrinews.kz reports citing press-secretary of Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry Ilyas Omarov. He said that Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan political consultations were held in Tashkent on August 13-14. Kazakhstan was represented by deputy Foreign Minister Amangeldy Zhumabayev. “At the meeting the parties will discuss current issues of bilateral cooperation, including the course of preparation for the official visit of Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov to Kazakhstan scheduled for this autumn, as well as the prospects of development of trade and economic relations and further development of cultural interaction,” Omarov said. Uzbekistan recently formed its foreign policy for the first time in the last 20 years. In particular, the document states that “Uzbekistan reserves the right to form unions, enter commonwealths and other interstate establishments or leave them guided by the highest interests of the state and the people, their well-being and security”. Central Asian region is the main priority of the Uzbekistan’s foreign policy.
