UN chief meets North Korean parliament leader in Moscow

 UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon held a brief meeting in Moscow at the weekend with North Korea's parliament president Kim Yong-Nam, a UN spokesman said Monday, AFP reports.

Ban attended World War II commemorations in Moscow as did Kim who traveled to Russia after leader Kim Jong-Un cancelled a much-anticipated visit.

UN spokesman Farhan Haq declined to provide details of the meeting.

On Monday, the spokesman announced plans for Ban to travel to South Korea on May 18 as part of a tour that will also take him to Vietnam, Ireland and Belgium.

A former South Korean foreign minister, Ban has been a strong advocate of reunification.
