Tokayev: Turkic states must act together

Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in the XII summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), citing the Akorda press service.

In his speech, Tokayev expressed gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for his hospitality and highlighted the importance and relevance of the summit’s agenda.

"We consistently emphasize that the history of the Turkic peoples traces back to shared roots, and our nations have a common origin going back centuries. This serves as the golden core of brotherhood and enduring unity among our peoples. Recently, our countries celebrated Turkic States Cooperation Day. This significant holiday symbolizes the strengthening of unity among Turkic nations. Today, the Organization has become an influential and authoritative structure, uniting friendly Turkic peoples," the President said.

Tokayev also thanked President Sadyr Japarov for Kyrgyzstan’s successful chairmanship of the OTS and expressed confidence that the Organization’s status will continue to strengthen under Azerbaijani leadership, headed by President Ilham Aliyev.

The Kazakh President noted that the global security system is experiencing a challenging period, with conflicts, geopolitical tensions, and other threats posing risks to all nations.

"In these unstable times, I want to especially highlight the recent signing of the declaration on peaceful relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This historic document ended a conflict unresolved for more than 30 years and laid the foundation for regional stability and economic growth. Given the current complex geopolitical situation, Turkic states must act together in their common interests. The international community now recognizes us as strong and united states capable of addressing serious challenges. Many countries show interest in our Organization’s activities. Kazakhstan supports the creation of a ‘Turkic States Organization+’ format, aimed at further expanding our cooperation. This initiative is intended to enhance the OTS’s international authority," Tokayev emphasized.

Reference: The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) is an intergovernmental international organization established on October 3, 2009, in Nakhchivan (Azerbaijan) as the "Cooperation Council of Turkic-Speaking States" (Turkic Council). In 2021, it was renamed OTS and registered with the UN. Its main goal is to develop comprehensive cooperation among Turkic states in politics, economy, trade, culture, education, security, and transport.

President Tokayev arrived at the congress center in Gabala today to participate in the XII OTS summit.
