Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has announced upcoming visits to several countries and confirmed that he will deliver a speech at the anniversary session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Head of State outlined his plans during his annual Address to the Nation.
“By the end of the year, I will pay visits to Russia and Uzbekistan. We are also preparing to host the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkmenistan in Astana, and meetings are scheduled with heads of state from several Asian and European countries,” Tokayev said.
He emphasized the dynamic development of Kazakhstan–US dialogue as well as broad engagement with the European Union.
Tokayev also noted the significance of the UN’s 80th anniversary, calling the organization “the fundamental institutional embodiment of the outcomes of World War II”.
“The UN remains without alternative and, in Kazakhstan’s view, must serve as the primary platform for fair negotiations on all pressing international issues,” he stated, adding that reform of the UN, particularly its Security Council, has become necessary.
“In the near future, I will address the anniversary session of the General Assembly in New York, where I will present Kazakhstan’s vision of the international situation, including proposals on reforming the United Nations,” Tokayev said.
Earlier, during the SCO+ summit on September 1, Tokayev stressed the importance of supporting the UN as a universal and independent organization amid today’s complex geopolitical realities.
