Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of developing the North-South transport corridor and the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway route as key elements of the growing trade and logistics ties between the two countries.

According to Tokayev, there is significant potential for strengthening cooperation in the transportation sector.

“We must make effective use of the strategically advantageous locations of our countries. Currently, about 85 percent of overland freight between Europe and China passes through Kazakhstan. This makes the development of the North-South corridor and the Kazakhstan–Turkmenistan–Iran railway route especially important. This is a vital project that serves the interests of both sides,” he said.

The President also reminded that Kazakhstan is working on modernizing its railways, building transport highways, and enhancing navigation on the Caspian Sea.

“We have invited Iranian investors to join these initiatives and are ready to offer special proposals and provide incentives for interested private sector representatives. We view Iran as a ‘gateway’ to Southeast Asia and the African continent. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Iranian leadership for providing Kazakhstan with land in the Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas. This step will undoubtedly further strengthen our cooperation,” Tokayev emphasized.

Tokayev believes that regional ties should provide new momentum for collaboration between the two countries.

“Partnerships have already been established between several regions of Kazakhstan and Iranian provinces. We welcome the proposal from Iranian entrepreneurs to create a joint Free Economic Zone in the Mangystau region. I am confident that this will facilitate the production of finished products from Iranian raw materials in Kazakhstan, ensuring subsequent supplies to countries in the region,” said the President.

Earlier, the Iranian delegation handed Kazakhstan copies of valuable ancient manuscripts.

In addition, Akorda hosted the official welcoming ceremony for President Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who arrived in Kazakhstan for an official visit.
