Tengrinews.kz – President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the CIS Heads of State Council meeting.

During his address, Tokayev thanked the Tajik side and President Emomali Rahmon for the impeccable organization of the summit and their traditional warm hospitality.

“The successful chairmanship of Tajikistan has made a significant contribution to strengthening the organization’s potential. This summit will give a strong impetus to the further work of the CIS, which Kazakhstan regards as an authoritative international organization,” he noted.

The President reminded that this year marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Second World War.

“In Kazakhstan, we hold sacred the unparalleled heroism of our fathers and mothers, the generations of victors who defended universal human values under the most severe conditions for the development of all states. In the CIS countries, including Kazakhstan, this remarkable anniversary has been duly celebrated, culminating in grand-scale ceremonial parades in Moscow and Beijing. Our moral duty is to carefully preserve the memory of the heroes and all actual participants of this bloodiest war in human history,” Tokayev emphasized.

He added that “unfortunately, 80 years after the Great Victory over fascism, the world is once again facing the danger of a global conflict with the gravest consequences for human civilization”.

“Kazakhstan opposes any attempts to falsify the history of the Second World War and to diminish the historical significance of the Great Victory over fascism. We view with concern the processes undermining the foundations of international law, the catastrophic decline in trust between states, the intensification of confrontational rhetoric, the crisis of multilateral diplomacy, and the notable weakening of the UN’s peacekeeping potential. In these conditions of geopolitical upheaval, it is critically important to unite the efforts of CIS countries and all our allies to eliminate conflict-generating factors. This can only be achieved through mutual understanding and coordinated action,” said Tokayev.

Earlier, Tokayev participated in the “Central Asia – Russia” summit at the Palace of Receptions in Dushanbe. He highlighted that the potential of Central Asia and its role as a dynamically developing region in global processes are recognized by leading world powers.
