Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of striving for peace through diplomatic negotiations as a sign of strategic wisdom during his speech at the plenary session of the Astana Think Tank Forum.
At the forum, Tokayev reiterated Kazakhstan's stance on advocating for the voices of medium-sized powers on the global stage, including within the United Nations Security Council.
"We would like to see a more inclusive and resilient international system. States, regardless of size, should have the opportunity to contribute to building a better world. Kazakhstan will continue to play an active role on the global stage. We are at the crossroads of diplomacy, economic cooperation, and multilateral governance. Our influence, combined with that of our colleagues and partners, can significantly shape the future world. We do not want to remain passive observers in the evolving international order; rather, we aspire to be architects of a more balanced, fair, and sustainable global system," President Tokayev said.
In this context, Tokayev addressed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
"As I mentioned during talks with Chancellor Scholz, Russia is militarily invincible. This is a fact, backed by Russia's military strength, the support of its population for President Putin’s policies, and historical precedent. Therefore, it is essential to seek peaceful resolutions, and we support realistic peace plans proposed by countries such as China and Brazil. There is no other path. The alternative is a war of mutual destruction, which some global powers may be interested in, but this is a path to ruin. Striving for peace through constructive negotiations is not a sign of weakness but a demonstration of strategic wisdom," Tokayev stated.
