Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has begun his working visit to New York, the Akorda press service reported.
During the trip, the head of state will address the General Debate of the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly. His program also includes talks with foreign leaders and heads of international organizations.
Tokayev is scheduled to speak at a roundtable meeting and hold a series of talks with representatives of multinational companies, where Kazakhstan’s investment opportunities will be presented.
The visit began with a meeting with Cameco Corporation President Tim Gitzel, where the sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the uranium industry. Tokayev emphasized that Cameco has been a longstanding and reliable partner of Kazakhstan’s national company Kazatomprom, investing more than $500 million in the country and facilitating technology transfer.
According to Akorda, the president highlighted Kazakhstan’s new stage in energy development, with plans to build three nuclear power plants. He noted the country’s interest in innovative methods used in the nuclear sector.
For his part, Gitzel briefed Tokayev on the current activities and plans of Inkai, a joint venture operating the uranium deposit of the same name in Turkistan Region for more than 25 years.
Tokayev’s working visit to New York will run from September 21 to 23.
