Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has stated that the concept of patriotism in Kazakhstan is gaining new meaning, particularly among the younger generation. He made the remarks during his annual Address to the Nation.
“Every citizen must be a statesman and a patriot. Today, the essence of the word ‘patriotism’ is changing. In the past, it was largely measured by traditional values – language, culture and spirituality were seen as the core of national interests. These remain the pillars of our identity and will never be taken from us,” Tokayev said.
The Head of State emphasized that educated youth interpret patriotism differently.
“The younger generation rejects religious radicalism and extreme nationalism. For them, patriotism means creativity and innovation. They believe love for the homeland lies in contributing to society – through discoveries, entrepreneurship and new ideas. They want Kazakhstan to be a prosperous, developed country, mastering modern technologies to place our nation at the forefront of progress,” he noted.
According to Tokayev, for young people patriotism is about striving for the future.
“I fully support this view. I believe in the strength, talent and knowledge of our youth. We honor our ancient history, but only we can shape what we will become tomorrow. That is why we will always support young people who pursue knowledge and care about the prosperity of the nation,” he said.
The President added that young Kazakhstanis will be the ones to experience the results of the country’s ongoing reforms. He highlighted their adaptability to global changes, especially in the era of artificial intelligence.
Quoting Abai, Tokayev reminded that reason, science, worthy parents and friends, and wise mentors shape the best human qualities.
“As Head of State, I will add: in a civilized and progressive country, laws must be just, the government competent, and citizens conscious and active,” he said.
Tokayev concluded by stressing that every state decision must aim at improving people’s lives, stabilizing the economy and ensuring social justice.
“Thanks to comprehensive reforms, Kazakhstan is confidently moving along the path of progress. We must go only forward, without straying from our chosen course,” he said.
