Tengrinews.kz – President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Johan Eliasch, President of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), at Akorda.
During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation. Tokayev noted that more than 85,000 people in Kazakhstan regularly engage in skiing disciplines and emphasized that the country has modern infrastructure, including alpine and cross-country ski facilities as well as ice arenas that meet international standards.
“The President highlighted the special focus Kazakhstan places on preparations for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Italy. In turn, the FIS President thanked the Head of State for supporting sports, noting that athletes from Kazakhstan perform with distinction at major international competitions. He also highly praised the socio-economic reforms being carried out in the country,” Akorda said in a statement.
The interlocutors also explored opportunities to expand cooperation between Kazakhstan and the federation in areas such as experience exchange, athlete training, coach education and judging.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Tokayev awarded Johan Eliasch the Order of Dostyk (Friendship), Second Degree, in recognition of his contribution to the development of skiing and snowboarding in Kazakhstan.
