Tokayev: A long-awaited peace opportunity has emerged in the Ukrainian conflict

Tengrinews.kz – During his participation in an international forum in Ashgabat, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan's support for the activation of peace talks regarding the Ukrainian conflict, citing Akorda.

Tokayev stressed the importance of large powers showing political will to encourage UN member states to engage in broad dialogue.

“Kazakhstan supports the initiative proposed by Turkmenistan’s President on December 12 to create a UN Peace and Neutrality University,” Tokayev said. “It’s now clear that a just and sustainable world order will only become a reality when narratives of inevitable global confrontation, and even nuclear war, are rejected, and militaristic rhetoric gives way to language of peace, trust, and cooperation.”

In this context, Kazakhstan welcomes the intensification of negotiations on the Ukrainian conflict. Following the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the US in Anchorage, discussions on the main points of the peace pact are actively ongoing, signaling the emergence of a long-awaited opportunity for peace, Tokayev added.

Earlier, Tokayev arrived at the Congress Center in Ashgabat to take part in the forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

At the start of his speech, Tokayev congratulated Turkmenistan’s national leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the 30th anniversary of the country’s permanent neutrality.

Tokayev arrived in Ashgabat on the evening of December 11 for the forum, where he was met at the airport by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
