There are no outstanding issues between Kazakhstan and Turkey: Nazarbayev

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Prime-Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Tengrinews.kz reports. Kazakhstan President’s visit included signing of a range of bilateral documents, such as a joint statement on the results on the first meeting of the Strategic Cooperation Council, New Synergy joint economic program for 2012-2015 covering interaction in trade and investments. A memorandum of understanding was also signed by public services of Kazakhstan and Turkey. In general Nazarbayev noted that there were no outstanding issues between Turkey and Kazakhstan. He said that Turkish investments reached $2 billion in the 20 years of Kazakhstan’s independence. Kazakhstan President added that the plan was to ensure increase of the investments by $500 million annually. In the meeting Nazarbayev awarded Turkish Prime-Minister with Kazakhstan’s supreme decoration Altyn Kyran. Turkey is one of the most important trade and economic partners of Kazakhstan. The commodities turnover between the two countries reached $3.3 billion in 2011. In the first 6 months of 2012 it made $2.46 billion. Kazakhstan President stated that the plan was to bring the commodities turnover to $10 billion by 2015. There are around 150 Kazakhstan companies operating in Turkey. Erdogan noted that Kazakhstan’s economy had been developing dynamically thanks to its balanced foreign policies and made a significant impact on ensuring regional and international security. Turkish PM also congratulated Kazakhstan on its success at the London Olympics-2012. Nazarbayev also met with Turkish President Abdullah Gül. The presidents summed up results of their 20-year cooperation and discussed further development of relations between the two countries. During the visit to Turkey Nazarbayev visited Ataturk mausoleum and laid flowers. Kazakhstan President also signed the Honorary Visitors’ Book noting the contribution of the first president of Turkey into the country’s development. Nazarbayev took part in the closing ceremony of Kazakhstan-Turkish business forum in Istanbul on October 12. By Dmitriy Khegai
