Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a speech at the closing of the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana, emphasizing the importance of interfaith dialogue in today's world.

In his speech, Tokayev noted that over the past few days, the capital hosted meetings of representatives from various cultures and civilizations.

"Despite differences in faith and traditions, we are all united by common aspirations and good intentions. This was clearly reflected in the Final Declaration of the Congress, which outlines shared ideas and proposals. This is the essence of the forum. We witnessed constructive dialogue based on mutual respect. Most importantly, spiritual leaders showed a willingness to unite efforts for the common good," he said.

Tokayev emphasized that true wisdom lies in the ability to engage in meaningful and constructive dialogue.

"Today, you are showing the world an example of foresight and prudence. In the face of growing geopolitical instability, this becomes particularly significant. The forum demonstrated how crucial it is to develop cooperation between religions and cultures for the better future of humanity. During plenary and sectional sessions, a special session on the protection of religious sites and symbols, an expert round table, and the forum of young religious leaders, many valuable ideas and proposals were voiced. You resolutely condemned destructive ideologies and violence, considered ways to resolve contemporary crises, discussed methods to overcome social inequality, and build inclusive societies," he said.

He also mentioned that special attention was given to issues of ecology, sustainable development, and the impact of new technologies and artificial intelligence on human life.

"In my opening speech, I highlighted the important role of spiritual diplomacy in strengthening dialogue and trust on the international stage. I am glad that you share this view," said Tokayev.

The President also pointed out that in an era of fundamental global changes, it is religious leaders who must bear the light of moral guidelines and humanist values to humanity.

"Over the two days, you have reached a shared understanding of the future agenda and the key areas of work for the Congress, which were outlined in the joint Final Declaration. I urge all participants, including Goodwill Ambassadors, to actively promote the ideas of this Declaration. I fully support your recommendations to the Congress Secretariat to develop a document on the role of religious leaders in combating climate change and universal principles of responsible artificial intelligence use from the perspective of spirituality and humanism. I would also like to highlight the session organized in partnership with the UN Alliance of Civilizations," Tokayev said.

The President also emphasized the importance of protecting religious sites to preserve historical memory, cultural diversity, and humanity's spiritual heritage.

"The fact that this event was held in Kazakhstan underscores the significant role of Central Asia in this matter. The Forum of Young Religious Leaders demonstrated that the new generation is striving to preserve continuity and continue the path of dialogue and mutual understanding. This means that the world has a future. The expert round table showed the importance of the synergy between scientific and religious knowledge for greater understanding of the potential of spiritual diplomacy. I believe we should strengthen this direction as a vital part of broad international cooperation. At the Congress, the idea of a unified, neutral, and non-politicized voice of religious leaders for peaceful coexistence was discussed. This could make a meaningful contribution to the formation of a new, more stable, and just world order," Tokayev emphasized.

Kazakhstan, he said, fully supports interfaith and intercultural dialogue at all levels and will actively contribute to increasing the influence of the Congress as a global platform for dialogue.

"We will continue to expand the partnership network of the Congress Secretariat with UN institutions and other structures. A number of events with international partners, youth, experts, and volunteer organizations are planned to promote the ideas of the Congress. Peace is our most important treasure, a value that is equally significant for all countries, peoples, and religions. Truly, only peace and stability can serve as the unshakable guarantee of a bright future. You are making tireless efforts in this direction, and today’s meeting is a strong testament to that. In conclusion, I can say that the Congress was successful. I express my deep gratitude to all of you. I am confident that our unity in the pursuit of high goals will continue to strengthen," Tokayev concluded.
