The Silk Way could be included into UNESCO world heritage list in 2013

China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have postponed the announcement of the Silk Way listing as the part of UNESCO world heritage and shifted it from 2012 to February 1, 2013, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Chinese Information Internet Center. This decision has been made because of immensity of the project and “different conditions in three countries.” “It is necessary that China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan strengthen the partnership and regulation procedures among themselves”, said GUAN Qiang, Chief Director-General of Protection and Archeology Department of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. According to him, the real transnational and large-scale announcement of the Silk Way as the part of UNESCO World Heritage List is an unprecedented event. It might become a rare opportunity for strengthening of international and regional partnership. The meeting of three countries representatives dedicated to the getting the Silk Way into the UNESCO World Heritage was held in Urumqi on December 27, 2011. UNESCO representatives joined the meeting as well. The parties agreed upon the name of the site and signed a joint memorandum as a result of the meeting.
