Swiss lawmakers support EXPO-2017 in Kazakhstan

Today President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev has received Filippo Lombardi, President of the Council of States (upper house) of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, Tengrinews reports referring to the official presidential website Akorda. At the meeting they discussed inter-parliamentary relations, cooperation in new technologies, energy and interaction within the frameworks of international organizations. The Kazakhstan President emphasized the importance of Lombardi’s visit and said it was his first time in Kazakhstan. “We established the diplomatic relations with Switzerland 20 years ago. Our countries have good trade and economic connections, mutual investments are growing. We are interested in continuing this positive dynamics in our relations,” said the President. Nazarbayev also emphasized the importance of inter-parliamentary ties that greatly contribute to strengthening of the inter-state relations. Meanwhile, Lombardi noted that it’s not only important to develop political, trade and economic cooperation but also to cooperate in other areas. “We would like to express our support to the international exhibition EXPO-2017 dedicated to the energy of the future. We also want to convey our respect to Kazakhstan’s achievements in numerous areas, including the economy and maintenance of stability and peace in the region. Kazakhstan's chairmanship in the OSCE in 2010 was successful, and since Switzerland is going to chair the organization in 2014, we find Kazakhstan’s experience to be very valuable,” said the President of the Council of States of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland. Before meeting the President Lombardy had several meetings with the Kazakhstan Senate Speaker Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
