President of South Africa Jacob Zuma may pay an official visit to Kazakhstan in 2015, Tengrinews reports citing the press service of Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry.

On November 6, Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov met with Vice Foreign Minister of South Africa Nomaindi Mfeketo.

At the meeting, the sides stressed the need to arrange mutual high-level visits to facilitate the bilateral ties. In pursuance of this plan South African President Jacob Zuma who was reelected in June 2014 may pay an official visit to Kazakhstan in 2015.

Yerlan Idrissov and Nomaindi Mfeketo discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation including economy, trade and investments, mining, technology and education.

Kazakhstan is interested in expanding friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation with South Africa. "The opening of Kazakhstan’s Embassy in your country is a prime example of special attention that Kazakhstan’s leadership pays to South Africa,” Yerlan Idrissov said.

Besides, Yerlan Idrissov and Nomaindi Mfeketo suggested creating a bilateral intergovernmental commission for further deepening of political, trade  and humanitarian collaboration. "Kazakhstan's business is ready to enter the South African market, and for our part, we are ready to support South African entrepreneurs in the development of their business in Kazakhstan, which is a part of the Customs Union," the head of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan said.

Kazakhstan’s bid for a nonpermanent seat on the UN Security Council in 2017-2018 was also among the topics covered during the meeting. "Kazakhstan has a clear understanding of problems that exist in Africa and it is ready for close cooperation with South Africa as well as other countries of the continent. Kazakhstan has an observer status in the African Union and is familiar with its agenda. We are ready to raise important issues related to economic development and fight against terrorism in the UN’s Security Council. Kazakhstan has the resources and experience to do that. Given the fact that South Africa has twice been a nonpermanent member of the UN’s Security Council, your experience will be very useful to us,” Yerlan Idrissov said.

Nomaindi Mfeketo arrived in Kazakhstan to co-chair the fourth round of consultations between foreign ministries of South Africa and Kazakhstan along with Kazakhstan's Vice Foreign Minister Askar Mussinov in Astana on November 5 and 6. It is aimed at systematization of bilateral relations and implementation of the agreements reached at the highest levels.

Kazakhstan's observer status in the African Union that was granted to it in November 2013, indeed, opens up huge opportunities to develop a mutually friendly and beneficial cooperation with all of the countries of the continent given the fact that Africa is one of the top priorities in Kazakhstan's new Foreign Policy Concept for 2014-2020.
