Tengrinews.kz – French President Emmanuel Macron found himself in an unusual situation in New York when his motorcade was halted by U.S. police to let President Donald Trump’s convoy pass, BFMTV reported.
The incident occurred on September 22 after Macron’s speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. As he exited the building, the French leader was forced to wait outside while Trump’s motorcade drove by.
"Sorry, Mr. President, everything is blocked off right now," a police officer told Macron, gesturing toward the approaching convoy.
According to footage, Macron then called his American counterpart.
"Imagine, I’m standing on the street waiting because everything is blocked for you," he joked during the phone call.
A few minutes later, police reopened the street, but only for pedestrians. Macron continued his conversation with Trump on the sidewalk, even though he had planned to head to the French consulate.

The incident came a day after Macron announced France’s recognition of Palestine as a state at the UN headquarters in New York. Leaders of Belgium, Monaco, Malta and Luxembourg made similar declarations, while the UK, Canada, Australia and Portugal had recognized Palestine on September 21.
Earlier, on September 12, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution—introduced by France and Saudi Arabia—calling for a return to the "two states for two peoples" principle in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The resolution was supported by 142 countries, opposed by 10 (including the U.S. and Israel), with 12 abstentions.
