Tengrinews.kz – The second meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan took place in Astana under the chairmanship of Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Ilham Aliyev, the Akorda press service reports.
The agenda included cooperation in transport, logistics, digitalization, the fuel and energy sector, as well as cultural and humanitarian ties.
In his opening remarks, President Tokayev emphasized that the council reflects the special nature of Kazakhstan–Azerbaijan relations, serving as an effective platform for coordinating joint decisions across all areas of bilateral cooperation.
“Azerbaijan is a special and brotherly country for Kazakhstan. We are united by common historical roots, a rich spiritual and cultural heritage, a shared mentality, and a common worldview. On this solid foundation, we are successfully developing multifaceted cooperation,” Tokayev said.
He noted that Aliyev’s visit is particularly symbolic, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the Treaty on Strategic Partnership and Alliance between the two nations.
“Over these years, we have built an active political dialogue and established a strong legal framework for the steady growth of trade, economic, and cultural relations. This comprehensive and consistent work is fully supported by the peoples of both countries,” Tokayev added.
The Kazakh President also praised Ilham Aliyev’s personal contribution to strengthening bilateral ties and acknowledged his leadership in achieving lasting peace in the region.
“All of Azerbaijan’s remarkable achievements are closely linked to your strong and constructive leadership. The Declaration on the peaceful settlement of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has historic significance. Your political will and strategic vision are an example of wisdom and responsibility for the future of coming generations,” Tokayev stated.
He concluded by noting that the agreements reached between the two nations open new horizons for cooperation both within the region and beyond.
“We sincerely rejoice in the success of brotherly Azerbaijan and wish you success in building a strong, progressive state. As for our relations, they have enormous potential — founded on unwavering political trust, shared values, and the genuine desire of our peoples to draw closer,” he said.
President Ilham Aliyev also addressed the council, reaffirming Azerbaijan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan.
Aliyev arrived in Astana on October 20 for a state visit at the invitation of President Tokayev, who personally welcomed him at the airport.
The leaders last met in July 2024 in Astana, where they discussed joint projects in investment, industry, energy, transport, and logistics, paying particular attention to the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
