Russia and Kazakhstan are showing an example of relations between neighbors to CIS and the whole world, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev as saying at the meeting with Russian Prime-Minister Dmitry Medvedev in Astana. President Nazarbayev welcomed Medvedev on his first visit to Kazakhstan as head of Russia’s government. This trip is the first foreign visit of the Russian Prime-Minister. “This is your first foreign visit and we highly appreciate it. Russia and Kazakhstan show CIS and the whole world how the relations between the neighbors have to be built. In 20 years we have built absolutely equal-righted, good-neighborly and allied relations. I have to say that we have solved many important historical issues during your presidency. We adopted common customs duties, created the Customs Union, Common Economic Space, made other necessary decisions and signed important documents. We have solved many issues at meetings. I hope that your experience and knowledge will allow you effectively work at this important position of the head of the government and to continue developing traditionally good relations between our countries. I also congratulate you on being elected chairman of the United Russia party. I wish you good health and success,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said. “I think that good traditions cannot be broken. I visited Kazakhstan after I was elected president of Russia. And now this is my first visit as Russia’s Prime-Minister to this very friendly and allied country. We not only have good relations with Kazakhstan, we are also strategic partners. I view that as a symbol of those transformations we have introduced in the recent years. I believe that we have significantly improved our bilateral cooperation and created a very powerful integrated union. The things you have been actively promoting in the 1990s have been finally implemented and I am happy that we have made it happen. I will do everything to develop our bilateral relations and make them powerful, strong and promote a general improvement of the climate in Central Asia,” Medvedev stressed. According to Kazakhstan President’s press-service, Russia is the biggest trade partner of Kazakhstan. The commodity turnover between the countries made $24 billion in 2011.
