Representatives of around 100 countries will come to Astana for EXPO-2017, Tengrinews.kz reports citing deputy Prime-Minister as saying at the press-conference with participation of the Secretary General of the International Exhibitions Bureau Vicente Loscertales. “We have to consider different criteria when calculating the number of countries that will take part in the EXPO. This is important for many countries. It is hard to give the exact number of participating countries now, but the preliminary number is over 100 countries. I think this is a good number,” Vicente Loscertales said. According to him, one should not strive for a record number of participating countries when preparing to host the EXPO. The main objective should lay in ensuring a good quality of pavilions and presentations made by every country. “The more countries take part in the EXPO-2017, the better it will be for the international relations, the more the network of Kazakhstan's partners will be expanded. The subject of the energy of future is important as well,” Loscertales said. The Secretary General of the International Exhibitions Bureau also said at the press-conference that the purpose of his visit was to once again congratulate the country’s government and Kazakhstan residents on the great success in the bid to host the EXPO-2017. He also added that another important goal is to discuss the further steps. “After the victory was announced, Kazakhstan President and the country’s government have been constantly working on creating the required structure for successful hosting of the exhibition. The measures already taken include creation of a state corporation that will be responsible for implementation of the EXPO-2017 and creation of the required organizational commissions. All that provides for a clear direction and political control in this work. All the measures comply with the requirements and rules of our organization,” Vicente Loscertales said. He noted that Kazakhstan will have to work out all the aspects for implementation of the EXPO-2017: construction and communications policies, issues related to visitors, infrastructure and other matters. “All these issues were dealt with when Kazakhstan was a candidate host of the exhibition, but now it is necessary to work on their details, so that our organization receives results by the end of the year. Only after we get all the details, we will be able to invite representatives for the private sector from different countries, representatives of the companies and interested groups, so that they cooperate and help in implementing the EXPO-2017,” Loscertales noted. According to Vicente Loscertales, the first meetings with the countries that will accept the invitations will start by the end of 2014. He stated that the meetings will be held to discuss and explain the way the EXPO-2017 will be arranged. The project will be implemented in the period from 2015 to 2017. “Now I would like to talk about the events calendar. Two reports will have to be submitted to the International Exhibitions Bureau. The first report will be prepared in the beginning of the year and the second one - in the second half of the year. Plus two additional reports are required for the General Assembly. One will be submitted in June and the other one in November 2013. This is the calendar of the coming events this year,” Vicente Loscertales.
