Russian President Vladimir Putin has held a late meeting with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev on December 22, a Tengrinews correspondent reports from Moscow.

They discussed prospects of the bilateral cooperation and further deepening of the integration.

“The year 2014 is ending. 15 years ago you became the leader of Russia for the first time and that was the time we first met. If you remember, in 1999, in September, you came to our Almaty as Prime Minister (...). During these years, you have stopped the chaos in Russia, restored the vertical power structure. Russia is now a completely different country," Nazarbayev said.

The Kazakh president noted that he had listened to Putin’s State-of-the-Nation Address and his big press conference and wished him success in implementation of his new goals.

Speaking of the Eurasian Economic Union, Nazarbayev said that despite all the difficulties, the parties had to support this organization. "Despite all the troubles, I think we should support this organization, make it viable and interesting in all respects," he told Putin.

Vladimir Putin, in turn, said that he was aware of the fact that Nazarbayev arrived in Moscow after paying a visit to Ukraine’s Petro Poroshenko: "I know that you have come to us through Kiev, we will have an opportunity to talk about the meetings in the Ukrainian capital, and, of course, to talk about our bilateral plans to further deepen the integration."

In Kiev, the President of Kazakhstan suggested developing solutions to the Ukrainian crisis together with Poroshenko. Earlier, he declared that he could be an independent intermediary between the parties in the Ukrainian crisis. "I will tell about my meetings later," Nazarbayev said to Putin.

After the meeting, Nazarbayev and Putin signed a protocol on the exchange of instruments of ratification of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan on Good-Neighborliness and Alliance in the XXI Century as of 11 November 2013.
