Tengrinews.kz – Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev ahead of his upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, the Akorda press service reported.

According to the statement, Putin briefed Tokayev on the results of a recent meeting in Moscow with the U.S. president’s special envoy. The leaders discussed the schedule of upcoming high-level contacts, both bilaterally and within international forums, as well as current issues in bilateral cooperation and joint economic projects.

The Kremlin said the call focused on dialogue with Washington regarding the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, including the outcome of talks with U.S. Special Envoy Steven Witkoff. Tokayev expressed appreciation for the update and welcomed steps aimed at finding peaceful solutions.

The two presidents also discussed practical aspects of expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation, including large infrastructure projects in industry and energy.

On August 7, Moscow announced that the U.S. and Russia had agreed to hold a personal meeting between Putin and Trump. Preparations are already underway, with the venue agreed but yet to be announced. Media reports suggest Trump would agree to meet Putin only if the Russian leader also holds talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
