Poland supports Kazakhstan's bid to host EXPO-2017

Poland supports Kazakhstan’s bid to host international exhibition EXPO-2017 in Astana, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Polish deputy Prime-Minister and Minister of Economy Waldemar Pawlak as saying during a meeting of Kazakhstan-Polish inter-government commission. “As for holding the EXPO in Kazakhstan, I have good news. Our government has reiterated its support to Kazakhstan's bid to host EXPO-2017. This will be an additional opportunity for meetings and making Kazakhstan a center of cooperation with Europe,” Pawlak said. The inter-government meeting was followed by a bilateral economic seminar that included signing of a range of documents in mining and construction. Gross direct investments from Poland to Kazakhstan made $111.9 million from 2001 to March 31, 2012. Gross direct investments from Kazakhstan to Poland made $2.5 million from 2004 to March 31, 2012. 92 joint companies with Polish capital were registered in Kazakhstan as of 2010. These were mainly companies dealing with retail sales of a wide range of commodities, as well as those involved in general construction. Businessmen of both countries were negotiating at Korme exhibition center. Leading Polish producer of moldings and scaffolds signed a cooperation agreement with Kazakhstan’s AstanaServiceStroyMontazh-01. Director of Ulma-Opalubka Kazakhstan Gersh Eva Halina, who is also known as “queen of moldings”, says that the company’s advantage is its attractive prices combined with the quality equal to that of other Western companies. “We want to help this company to contact other Polish construction companies,” the businesswoman states.
