Peace and war have to be decided based on international law: Nazarbayev

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev has met with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the President’s press-service. The meeting covered a wide range of multilateral interaction issues, as well as those of regional security. “Kazakhstan President stressed that all the international issues should be solved based on the international law and under supervision of the Organization, especially the issues of war and peace,” the message states. According to the UN Secretary General, inviting of Kazakhstan to the G20 summit is an absolute acknowledgement of the success and achievements of the country in its economic development, improvement of its international standing and certification of the country’s role in resolving of global economic issues. “You made Kazakhstan a country that plays an important role in the regional security. This has been achieved thanks to your leadership,” Ban Ki-moon said. The Secretary General congratulated Kazakhstan on achievement of the Millennium Goals and resolving several large-scale economic issues. Kazakhstan participates in UN activities and supports the Organization’s initiatives, Nazarbayev said. “We have done a lot together in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. We are also grateful for the support to the initiative to declare August 29 the International Day against Nuclear Tests. Besides, we are pursuing the Green Economy program and working hard in this direction,” the Kazakhstan President stressed. The President also mentioned Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish the UN Regional Center in Almaty and added that all the necessary conditions would be created for the operation.
