The 12th OIC (Organization for Islamic Cooperation) summit finished in Cairo, Tengrinews.kz reports from Egypt. The delegates adopted a final communique. The document supports adoption of a universal nuclear-free world declaration, creation of a nuclear weapons-free zone in Central Asia and establishment of an OIC institute for food security with the headquarters in Astana. The summit's participants called for institutionalization of the OIC participation in G20 summits, 6th Astana Economic Forum, as well as for active participation of OIC member-countries in EXPO-2017. Kazakhstan was represented by Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov. The Minister voiced the country's position on several current issues of the Islamic world. He noted that the Islamic community especially needs solution of the fundamental issues related to ensuring peace and progress. Idrissov stressed the importance of stability in OIC countries. He mentioned Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev's initiative to calling a meeting on Interaction and trust-building measures in Asia. The Minister stressed that Kazakhstan views OIC as the only collective vote of the Islamic world and one of the key mechanisms of international security and cooperation. Idrissov also noted the importance of countering islamophobia. He stressed that Kazakhstan contributes to this process by initiating congresses of the leaders of world and traditional religions on a regular basis.
