US President Barack Obama is leading his Republican rival Mitt Romney by three points, even though many Americans remain dissatisfied with the situation in the country, AFP reports citing a new opinion poll. The survey joint survey by CBS News and the New York Times showed that 49 percent of likely voters will support Obama in the November 6 elections, while 46 percent gave their preference to Romney. Just four percent of those polled said they remained undecided. But when asked whether the country was doing better or worse than four years ago, 36 percent said the United States was doing better but 39 percent said things were worse. According to the survey, Romney is preferred to Obama among likely voters aged 65 and over, but the incumbent president leads among younger voters. Obama's lead among women voters is in double digits, according to the poll, 53-41 percent. But Romney holds a lead among men by 52 percent to 44 percent. This poll was conducted by telephone from September 8-12 among 1,301 adults nationwide. It had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points.
