In an interview to Russia-24, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev spoke about the prospects of the newly established Eurasian Economic Union, a Tengrinews correspondent reports. According to the Kazakh leader, economic union was created "thanks to the goodwill primarily of Kazakhstan and Russia."
He said that Eurasian Economic Union was the proper way of development. "We're moving in the right direction. This is one continent. Europe cannot live without Asia. Europe needs Russia, Kazakhstan, it needs our resources. We need their science, their technology. I am sure that the right time has come. The economy will live without politics, namely to actually improve the lives of people. I'm sure the time will come when the Eurasian Union will truly become Europe and Asia," Nazarbayev said.
President Nazarbayev said that everything suggested this was going to happen and cited the New Silk Road project and traditionally close and trusting relationships between Kazakhstan and Russia as signals.
"I think that no other countries have as close and trusting relationship as Kazakhstan and Russia do. Since 1991, since the Soviet Union collapsed, this relationship has not been been marred," he said.
The President also noted that the idea of the construction of Astana city was a "passionary impetus" to the people of Kazakhstan. When the Soviet Union collapsed, it was exactly the passionary impetus that Kazakhstan needed to move forward.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also talked about the most important decisions he made doing his work as president. "If you take a look back at the history of the Kazakhs and Kazakhstan, many things have happened here. Many peoples were moving through the territory of Kazakhstan since ancient Sakas, Huns and Turkic khanate. Many peoples, many religions and others passed through here. The Kazakhs got quite used to it," he said.
“There were several Khanates in the area. But such a state as it is now: with its size, clearly defined international borders, all the attributes of a state and its economic and political ties with all countries of the world - that has never happened before. I was behind the construction of the first Kazakh state in the history in the modern sense. Of course, this was the best thing that I could do with my allies, the people of Kazakhstan," Nursultan Nazarbayev declared.
