Nursultan Nazarbayev commented today's appointments for the journalists after his meeting in the Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Parliament), Tengrinews.kz reports. “New Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov is a well-known person in our country. He has been through all career steps. He started as a worker, then managed Temirtau town, he used to be Minister and first deputy Prime-Minister. He knows what to do. This will ensure succession and soft transition of the government’s powers,” Nursultan Nazarbayev said. According to President, appointment of Serik Akhmetov “is necessary amid the current rapidly changing situation at the global markets and inside the country. I think this will enable us to continue our work at the same pace and get ready for the possible second wave of the crisis that everyone is talking about,” President said. Speaking of the former Prime-Minister Karim Massimov, President said that the cabinet led by Massimov had fully performed its tasks. “Prime-Minister Karim Massimov has been heading the government and has been actively working for around 6 years. I am please in general. His work fell during the time of the financial-economic crisis and our country honorably overcame it. And this is a big achievement of our government and prime-minister,” Nazarbayev said. Meanwhile, the reshuffling in the government, according to the President, is justified only by the fact that Karim Massimov got tired of being Prime-Minister. “Normally the government changes when the country’s economy weakens and the society calls for the change. This is not our case. We have changed the prime-minister because he resigned. He tired to do it last year as well. When a person gets tired and wants to change the position and explains by saying that a new person is required, I listen to him and accept his resignation,” Nursultan Nazarbayev explained. The decision on appointment of ministers, according to President, will be made within 10 days in line with the Constitution.
