Number of Senate candidates went down to 39

Seven out of 46 candidates for Kazakhstan Senate seats withdrew, KazTAG reports citing a member of Kazakhstan Central Election Commission (CEC) Lyazzat Suleimen. “39 candidates are currently running for 16 seats in the Senate. Seven people withdrew under personal application,” she said. According to the information of the CEC that was announced last week, 46 candidates were registered. The elections to Senate are scheduled for August 19. Preliminary results of the coming elections are to be received by the evening of Friday, August 19, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports citing head of the CEC Kuandyk Turgankulov. He added that the final results will be announced on August 22. According to Turgankulov, territorial elections commissions are ready for elections. “The CEC has provided the territorial commissions with required financing, equipment, materials, posters and etc. We are currently 100 percent ready,” he said.
