A Security Council meeting took place in the President’s residence Akorda in Astana to discuss security measures for the upcoming EXPO-2017, Tengrinews reports. Referring to the recent upstir caused by text message spreading rumors about bankruptcy of several Kazakhstan banks, President Nazarbayev noted that the State has to find efficient ways to respond to new information technology challenges to prevent such situations in future. “We should keep up our development at a stable pace and ensure gradual improvement of our population's welfare and development of our country's economy,” he said. “With the constantly changing world that brings us new challenges we have to change our plans and approaches. Methods of influence, information technologies and ways to counter the influence have evolved. As you can see, constitutional system, sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries are now threatened with new forms of destructive influences. In this regard, we have to be extremely vigilent, ” Nazarbayev said. During the meeting, Security Council Secretary of Kazakhstan Kairat Kozhamzharov spoke about a renewed plan of state security in the face of the recent events. And the President empathized the importance of following the basic security principles in preparation for the EXPO-2017. “First of all we have to employ the best international public security practices. Second, we have to ensure comfortable conditions for all the participants and guests of the exhibition. Third, we have to implement uniform rules and security norms. Fourth, we have to ensure a clear division of the government agencies’ responsibilities and guarantee efficient cooperation of the agencies,” the official statement said. The President instructed to create a special interdepartmental office led by the Minister of the Interior that will ensure the cooperation between government agencies as a part of the security program of the upcoming exhibition.
